The Mission of the 55th Light Foot Battalion

Guided by constitutional principles, individual liberties, and a commitment to responsible service, the 55th Light Foot promotes preparedness without affiliation to political movements, religious organizations, or acts of violence.
The 55th Light Foot brings together individuals in Kootenai County who are committed to preparedness, personal responsibility, and community support through training in four core pillars:
Through shared learning, practical training, and ethical readiness, these pillars help foster personal resilience and strengthen the ability to support our families, neighbors, and community in an ever-changing and unpredictable world.

Relevance of the Unit Patch

The unit patch identifies members as part of the 55th Light Foot in Kootenai County, Idaho. It features a multicam background that matches our standard field uniform.
At the center is a classic American patriot Minuteman figure, symbolizing the more than 250-year tradition of citizen militias in the United States — ordinary individuals prepared to defend their communities, rights, and constitutional principles when necessary.
The design is simple, recognizable, and purposeful. It connects modern community preparedness efforts to enduring ideals of self-reliance, civic duty, ethical readiness, and the lawful defense of liberty.
This understated yet meaningful emblem reflects the organization’s focus on shared learning, responsible preparedness, and community support without implying any official military or law enforcement authority.
The patch is worn prominently on the upper left shoulder during training, field operations, and Battalion activities to promote unit cohesion, shared identity, and clear identification among members.

"The Meaning Behind Militia and Light Foot

The term “militia” historically refers to able-bodied citizens prepared to help defend and support their communities when needed. Under federal law, the militia includes both the organized militia (such as the National Guard) and the unorganized militia, consisting of qualifying citizens not serving in organized military forces.
The term “Light Foot” draws inspiration from historical light infantry units known for mobility, adaptability, and efficiency. For the 55th Light Foot, it represents a modern approach to readiness — emphasizing resilience, communication, medical preparedness, sustainment, and field skills while remaining grounded in constitutional principles and applicable laws.
The 55th Light Foot is a voluntary, community-based preparedness organization that operates within this longstanding American tradition. We are not a government or military unit, nor do we function as a private military organization. Our focus is on lawful preparedness, shared learning, and community support.
