Building Readiness Through Four Core Pillars

Preparedness is most effective when it is built upon a balanced foundation rather than a single skill or area of expertise. The 55th Light Foot Battalion organizes its training, education, and operational readiness around four interconnected Core Pillars that collectively support individual capability, team coordination, and community resilience.
Each pillar represents an essential component of preparedness. Communications enables coordination and information sharing. Medical Readiness develops the knowledge and skills needed to provide emergency care. Sustainment focuses on logistics, planning, and maintaining long-term readiness. Field Operations integrates these capabilities through practical application, coordination, and disciplined execution.
Together, these pillars create a common framework that promotes standardization, interoperability, and continuous improvement while supporting the Battalion’s mission of responsible service to Northern Idaho. Although each pillar can be developed independently, they are designed to complement one another, creating a well-rounded approach to preparedness grounded in constitutional principles, civic responsibility, and service to the community.

Explore the Core Pillars and Foundational Principles below to learn how each contributes to the Battalion’s mission and overall preparedness framework.

The Light Foot framework is guided by a set of four core operational pillars and foundational principles that shape training, organization, preparedness, and community support efforts. Together, these standards provide a common structure designed to promote readiness, interoperability, responsible leadership, and coordinated response capabilities across affiliated units.
